A woman has been refused bail after allegedly throwing a drink and stabbing a bus driver with scissors.

On Friday, Rachel Lewis, 23, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court following her arrest on Thursday.

Prosecutors alleged Ms Lewis of Morphett Vale had boarded a Torrens Transit bus at 11.15pm in the CBD alongside a small group of other passengers.

Ms Lewis allegedly got in a verbal altercation with the driver after being asked to not repeatedly press the “request stop” button.

The court heard a drink was thrown at the driver, before Ms Lewis allegedly banged on the perspex safety barrier and spat at the driver.

The court heard the driver allegedly pushed Ms Lewis away from him, and was then stabbed with scissors to the hand.

The driver required stitches for the wound.

Prosecutors alleged Ms Lewis was identified by other passengers, and after her arrest told officers where a pair of scissors had been disposed of near the River Torrens.

Counsel for Ms Lewis applied for bail, stating she strongly contested the allegations and claimed another passenger on the bus had been responsible for the alleged assault.

The court heard Ms Lewis was currently on bail for another unrelated charge at the time of the alleged offending, and had breached her bail curfew multiple times

Magistrate Louise Kleinig refused Ms Lewis bail, and the matter will return to court in May this year.
