Breaking the ice: Meth use in SA

A sex worker who turned to drugs after being the victim of a horrific crime bashed and robbed a client who owed her money.

Amber Kathleen Fisher, 43, awaits her fate from custody after she took the law into her own hands to recoup what she was owed.

During sentencing submissions, the District Court heard the victim attended at Ms Fisher and her co-accused’s premise in July 2022.

The court heard Fisher’s co-accused punched the victim to the mouth a number of times and he sustained a cut to the lip.

“The victim was further threatened on the basis that he owed Ms Fisher money,” the prosecutor said.

The court heard Fisher’s co-accused, who had a large knife with him, took the victim’s car keys and phone.

After seeing the victim had no money in his wallet, they drove him around to a number of ATMs so he could get money out but he was unable to do so.

The court heard Fisher’s co-accused took the victim’s watch and told him he’d get it back when he gave them $500.

Fisher was arrested and told police she had previously provided the victim with services, which she referred to as massage work.

Fisher, of Fulham Gardens, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm and theft.

Tim Mcgrath, for Fisher told the court his client was a sex worker and had provided sexual services to the victim who paid her $700 via Pay ID.

“He has feigned payment of that amount and it effectively bounced,” he said.
The court heard Fisher was the victim of a horrific crime when she was abducted while pregnant at 18 and turned to drugs.

Fisher then found out her abductor had been released after 10 years and was living in the same town as her.

“Subsequently she took comfort in the use of drugs and returned to drug use and in May 2016 got into a head on collision with an innocent motorist who passed away,” Mr McGrath said.

“She became a sex worker to survive.”

Mr McGrath said sex work was now behind Fisher, who was charged with causing death by dangerous driving over the crash, and she had been rehabilitating from drugs while in prison.

Fisher will be sentenced later this month.
