Speculation is growing about the future of breakfast radio host Rebecca Morse on the airwaves after she was a no-show on SAFM on Thursday morning.
A day after Bec & Soda Show co-host Mark Soderstrom announced his resignation citing he was facing the “biggest challenge of his life”, the early-morning slot was instead a music only show with no announcers on air.
Morse’s absence from the airwaves has fuelled speculation about her future at SAFM, with sources previously telling The Advertiser the former newsreader had not been offered a contract for next year.
It also remains unclear if Soderstrom will see out the remainder of the year at the station.
Soderstrom told his listeners on Wednesday he would “miss the job”.
“Life has changed for me recently and I’m facing the biggest challenge of my life and I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and it’s been pretty tough,” he announced on-air alongside Morse.
The Bec & Soda show’s ratings have been lacklustre since their debut almost two years ago, slipping to sixth place in the early-morning timeslot behind Mix 102.3, Nova 919, FIVEaa, ABC and Triple M.
The pair have been co-hosts since January, with Morse’s tenure at the station dating back to 2019 when she joined SAFM from her previous role as a Channel 10 Adelaide newsreader.
She formerly co-hosted with Andrew “Cosi” Costello – which some listeners said should never have changed.
“Should have kept Cosi,” one listener wrote on The Advertiser’s Facebook.
Another said: “Imagine if two women presented breakfast radio together in Adelaide instead?”
