Police arrest 48-year-old Paralowie man after fatal Craigmore crash on Friday morning

Police have arrested a 48-year-old Paralowie man following a fatal crash in Adelaide’ north on Friday morning, which claimed the life of a 49-year-old man from Hewett.

Man killed in crash at Craigmore

A man has been arrested following a fatal crash in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on Friday morning, which resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man.

Police and emergency services were called to Uley Road, near Beatrix Dr at Craigmore just before 8:30am, with reports of a crash between a black Volkswagen and white Holden sedan

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 49-year-old man from Hewett, died at the scene.

Two children inside the black Volkswagen suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Holden, a 48-year-old man from Paralowie, was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and has since been arrested.

He is expected to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing harm by dangerous driving.

Uley Rd resident Eileen Johnson, 76, said that the “almighty bang” of the crash sent her running outside.

“I came out to the gate and looked up, and saw there had been a big impact,” Ms Johnson said.

“Cars came up across the street, parked across the road, then police came, fire engines came, ambulances came.

“There was a woman screaming, ‘Save him, save him, save him’, and the children in the car were taken into the ambulance.

“They were very shaken... I don’t know whether she was part of the party with the gentleman.”

Ms Johnson, a 16-year resident of the road said, “there were some speeders” on the road, although it is unknown if dangerous driving played a role in the crash.

She shared her condolences to the victim’s family and the surviving children.

“It must have been horrific for them.”

Major Crash investigators attended and examined the scene.

The man arrested will be bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court in March.

The 49-year-old’s death is the 12th life lost on SA roads so far this year.
