Woman describes terrifying Gulfview Heights machete home invasion that left two in surgery

A woman who was at home when an armed gang stormed through the back door at 4am has described the frantic scenes that left her partner hurt and two others needing surgery.

The partner of a Gulfview Heights man injured in a violent home invasion has revealed chilling details of the ordeal suspected to be a targeted gang attack.

The woman was asleep downstairs with her partner when a group of armed offenders stormed their Nelson Rd home through the back door.

“We were woken up by some sort of shuddering kind of noise,” she said.

“My partner ran (upstairs) and by the time I went up there he was trying to stop the attacker.

“I went up there and just saw blood everywhere.

“I just grabbed towels and tried to wrap all the wounds up.

“We just did what we could and called the police. We just tried to stay calm and wrap all the wounds.”

Operation Meld is investigating whether the terrifying incident just after 4am Wednesday is the latest in a series of disturbing youth gang attacks across Adelaide.

The resident said she had no idea why the home was targeted, as she described the frantic efforts once the four people had forced their way inside.

“I know I’d heard about recent home invasions in the last couple of weeks but not sure how it is linked,” she said.

“They (the attackers) have gone through the back (of the house) because this house was for sale a few weeks ago so maybe they didn’t think anyone was here.

“I’m not sure why.”

She said the two-storey brick home was “just a family home” and not a gang house.

“We’re just normal people,” she said.

“You think Adelaide is a safe place and I don’t think about there being gangs everywhere.

“I guess they (gangs) just target nice families and don’t care who they hurt in the process.”

She said her partner’s younger brother, 17, and his mother remained in hospital undergoing surgery.

She said her partner was also injured in the ordeal, but feared what could have happened if he didn’t intervene.

“He ran upstairs and just straight away went into help,” she said.

“It was stupid but brave to try and stop them on the way out.

“But it probably helped a lot because we don’t know what else they would have done.

“I just wish I had my bat beside my bed – I will probably do that next time.”

The family is in the process of moving out after the property recently sold for an undisclosed figure.

Later that day, a 16-year-old Pennington boy was arrested and charged with causing serious harm and aggravated serious criminal trespass.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court on Thursday.
