Fear of judgement stops Adelaide fashion influencer and content creator Isabella Chambers from posting what she wants but she wants to change that.
With over 4600 followers, the 22-year-old has loved sharing her life on Instagram since high school but admits “it’s really hard to post what you want because there is that fear of being judged”.
“As much as I can sit here and be like ‘I post whatever I want’ — I don’t — because there are times where you are going to fear being judged,” Ms Chambers, who posts as @izabella.chamberss, said.
She also is a social media and influencer specialist at fashion store Serafina and said more respect should be given to influencers who post without fear of judgement.
“It’s awesome,” Ms Chambers said.
“I do find that I stop myself from posting specific things or posting as much as I want to.
“But it’s my own Instagram but it’s hard to remember that.”
The micro-influencers said although people judged her social media content, she found herself get jobs in the fashion industry because of her content.
Prior to returning home to work at Serafina in Adelaide, Ms Chambers worked as a freelance fashion stylist in Adelaide and Melbourne and in marketing and social media in Melbourne for fashion brand Pilgrim.
“I remember making the most random photography shoots out of my mum’s old clothes and getting a friend to come over and pose weirdly on my bed,” the social media and influencer specialist said.
“I posted it, I saw how many sends it got and shares and I was like, I know exactly what you’re doing, but that landed me a job in fashion.”
Ms Chambers said in Adelaide “we are quite conservative with who we let become a content creator”.
“I really urge people, Gen Z’s, to put themselves out there and use social media as much as they can,” she said.
“The pay-off is incredible.
“Stop listening to the people who you feel like are going to judge you, I still struggle with that today, but it’s worth it when you come out on the other end and realise how many opportunities you’ve let yourself get.
“Just post. Do it. Press it. Press send. Just do it.”
