Police have arrested two people following an investigation into the heartless act of dumping seven puppies at Port Adelaide.
On Saturday about 3pm, police were alerted by a call from the public that seven Red Heeler puppies had been dumped from a car near the Port River.
Police appealed to the public to help find the blue Great Wall ute with distinctive custom racks last seen to stop on Moonta Road.
Today, the investigation had a breakthrough where the alleged offenders were identified.
On Tuesday, a 58-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman – both from Athol Park – were arrested and charged with seven counts of ill-treatment of an animal.
The Western District CIB detectives, along with the RSPCA, attended their Athol Park address and seized three further dogs from the property.
The pair were bailed to appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on June 4.
Meanwhile, the seven puppies were given a clean bill of health after some of them were rescued from the water.
They have been taken to a rescue organisation which will help them to find their new forever homes.
