Seven puppies were dumped near the Port River on Easter Saturday – and now police are hunting for the owner of a car wanted in relation to the callous act.
The red heeler pups were cast aside at Port Adelaide with witnesses watching as the dogs were abandoned.
Police are appealing for information from the public over the incident, which happened about 3pm on Easter Saturday, March 30.
Police received a call from the public after a blue Great Wall ute with distinctive custom racks was seen to stop on Moonta Rd, near the Port River and dump the dogs.
According to police, the puppies were found running on the beach and some were retrieved from the water.
Police said the pups were taken to the police station to be dried before being checked over by a vet, and have since been given to a rescue organisation for rehoming.
Police are appealing for information to identify the owner of the blue Great Wall ute or the red heelers.

It comes after CCTV footage captured a woman allegedly dumping two cats beside Thiele Highway in the state’s Mid-North last week.
RSPCA SA is calling on the public to help identify the persons filmed, who can be seen pulling on to the side of the road opposite the Sutherlands Hotel at 7.40am on Wednesday, May 1, in a silver or white four-door hatchback.
The driver of the car remained inside while the woman walked around the back of the vehicle to let the two cats out from the right-side rear door.
A spokesperson for the RSPCA confirmed one of the cats had since been caught, but the other was still missing.
“One of the cats was caught soon after being released from the car and is now being cared for by the person whose CCTV camera captured the incident,” they said.
“The friendly female cat is estimated to be about six months old. The other cat has not yet been located.
“Abandoning an animal is an offence under South Australia’s Animal Welfare Act, and anyone found guilty can face up to two years imprisonment or a $20,000 fine.”
