AirAsia touches down at Adelaide Airport with debut flight direct to SA from Bali

Another direct international route from Adelaide has officially launched, joining a slew of other major airlines flying into the city.

The debut flight of Indonesia AirAsia into Adelaide touched down from Bali on Thursday morning, as the state government is celebrates a “record number” of international airlines connecting the world to SA.

The first Indonesia AirAsia touched down in SA from Denpasar just before 6.20am.

The new direct route from Bali is set to connect over 130 destinations across Asia and beyond to South Australia and create more than 74,000 visitor seats per year through Adelaide Airport.

Indonesia AirAsia is set to operate four flights a week, flying into Adelaide every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, and departing every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

According to the state government, Indonesia injected $49 million into South Australia’s visitor economy in 2024, up 18 per cent compared to the previous year with the Asian market worth $783 million to South Australia’s visitor economy.

Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison said Bali was one of the most popular destinations for South Australians and welcomed travellers arriving to the state to “delight in the simple pleasures of life – which we have in abundance”.

“With connections to over 130 destinations across Asia and beyond, Indonesia AirAsia’s makes it even easier for our $783 million Asian market to discover South Australia’s pristine nature, unmatched food and wine, and generous hospitality,” she said.

Adelaide Airport managing director Brenton Cox said South Australians fly to Bali more than any of our other international destinations.

“Indonesia AirAsia will provide greater choice for travellers as Adelaide’s first non-stop Asia-based low-cost carrier since 2015,” he said.

“This also opens up each-way low-cost one-and two-stop options via AirAsia’s formidable network throughout Southeast Asia and beyond including from Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Korea, Japan and India.”

It follows a suite of major international airlines returning or debuting in Adelaide.

From December 2025, United Airlines will provide the first direct flight from the United States of America into South Australia three times per week until March.

This addition enhances the roster of international airlines flying to Adelaide, which includes Air New Zealand providing connections from Auckland and Christchurch to Adelaide, with the latter commencing in October 2025 as a seasonal service.

Qatar Airways continues its route from Doha to Adelaide, while Singapore Airlines maintains its Singapore to Adelaide flights.

Malaysia Airlines connects Kuala Lumpur to Adelaide, and Fiji Airways offers services from Nadi to Adelaide.

Jetstar also operates flights from Denpasar to Adelaide. China Southern Airlines will resume its seasonal Guangzhou to Adelaide route in December 2025.

Emirates provides flights from Dubai to Adelaide, and Qantas will start a seasonal service from Auckland to Adelaide in October.

Additionally, Cathay Pacific has a seasonal route from Hong Kong to Adelaide starting in November.
