Rovers have claimed their first Cricket Far North first-grade minor premiership in more than a decade after the final round of the season was washed out on the weekend.

The Green Machine will go straight through to the grand final on March 6, with Mulgrave to host Atherton in the semi-final next weekend.

There was plenty at stake ahead of the final round of fixtures on the weekend, but wet weather forced Atherton and Mulgrave to abandon their clash at Loder Park before a ball was bowled.

The match between Barron River and Cassowary Coast suffered the same fate, with ground staff unable to prepare the Crathern Park pitch.

Norths and Rovers managed to get on at Griffiths Park in an overs-reduced match.

Rovers made 9/128 but Norths never got the opportunity to reply before the heavens opened. The match was eventually abandoned, with play unable to resume.

Atherton’s Paul Nasser will take out this season’s batting aggregate and average gongs, scoring 515 runs at an average of 51.5 over the summer.

Mulgrave’s Will Roberton took the most wickets (29), while clubmate Jake Roach had the best bowling average (7.56).
