Three North Coast teens have been hit with a laundry list of charges after they allegedly broke into a home and attacked a woman before stealing her car and leading police on two wild pursuits.
Police were told three teenagers, – two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old – forced their way into a Dean St home about 2.45am on Saturday.
The trio then allegedly assaulted a 67-year-old woman and fled in her Hyundai i30 sedan.
After being notified, Richmond Police District officers under Operation Regional Mongoose tracked the car travelling alongside a Holden Captiva – also reported stolen two days earlier.
A police pursuit was then initiated when both cars failed to stop. The Holden was found dumped in Boronia Cres, with the occupants allegedly piling into the Hyundai.
The pursuit was called off by police because of safety concerns.
A few hours later, the Hyundai was seen again on the Bruxner Hwy near Tabulam. Another pursuit commenced and road spikes were deployed.
The teens then allegedly reversed into a police car in an attempt to evade capture, before the vehicle then drove over the spikes and crashed into a parked car on Hare St.
The teens allegedly tried to flee the scene but were arrested with one officer sustaining lacerations in the fracas.
Police found a satchel containing two knives and a pair of gloves during searches.
The trio were charged with aggravated break, enter and steal whilst armed and in company, using a weapon to avoid apprehension and stealing a car.
They were also charged with participating in a criminal group, carrying a cutting implement upon arrest, two counts of police pursuit and breaching bail.
They were all refused bail and faced a children’s court on Sunday.
