A teenager has been arrested after allegedly starting a police chase in a stolen vehicle across the border on Tuesday night.

About 7.20pm, police attached to Tweed-Byron Police District were patrolling the M1 Motorway at Tweed Heads when they saw a blue BMW sedan travelling southbound.

It is alleged the vehicle was stolen from a home in Broadbeach Waters, QLD, earlier this week.

Officers initiated a pursuit and the vehicle continued southbound at speeds of about 150km per hour in a 100km per hour zone.

The pursuit was then terminated due to the manner of driving.

The car was located a short time later on Beryl Street and arrested a 16-year-old girl at the scene.

She was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with several offences including police pursuit, unlicensed driver and receive property stolen outside NSW.

She was granted strict conditional bail to appear at a children’s court next month.

Police are working to identify and locate other people in the car at the time.
