Shane Patrikis from Taree accused of dousing woman in lighter fluid, threatening to burn her in horror domestic violence incident

A Mid-North Coast man accused of dousing a woman in lighter fluid and threatening to set her on fire is facing new charges involving the same alleged victim and her family. Here’s what we know.

A Taree man accused of dousing a woman in lighter fluid and threatening to set her on fire is behind bars on remand on a fresh set of shocking domestic violence charges involving the same alleged victim and her family.

Shane Patrikis is alleged to have thrown the flammable liquid onto the woman at Taree just after 11.30pm on June 18 with the intention of burning her and causing grievous bodily harm.

Patrikis is also facing two charges of common assault relating to the same alleged victim on two separate occasions, on the evenings of June 18 and 19, and he has been charged with stalking and intimidating the same woman on June 18.

The 27-year-old comes before the court with an “extensive criminal history”, according to documents tendered to Taree Local Court.

But Patrikis was granted bail in relation to the four charges.

It’s now alleged Patrikis choked the woman and assaulted and threatened her family members around 2pm on July 19 – while on bail and prohibited from approaching the alleged victim.

Patrikis has been slapped with additional charges: contravening a prohibition in an apprehended violence order, using an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and threatening injury to a person with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He has also been charged with two counts of stalking and intimidating with the intent to cause fear of physical harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, common assault and intentionally choking a person without consent.

Patrikis has not entered a plea to any of the charges.

His bail was revoked on July 20 and he was remanded in custody.

The case was adjourned to September 25.
