A nursing student has copped a lecture from a Coffs court after she was busted repeat disqualified driving and driving over the legal alcohol limit for novice motorists.

A young Boambee East woman has been forced to face court after she was busted driving disqualified by police twice in just 40 minutes.

Shanae Rose Spalding was also caught driving over the zero alcohol limit for a learner or P-plate driver, Coffs Harbour Local Court heard.

Defence lawyer Alex Leal Smith said on Wednesday that his 20-year-old client was studying a Diploma in Nursing with aspirations to specialise in midwifery.

“She does have a bright future in front of her,” he told the court.

Police facts state officers patrolling Thompsons Rd, Coffs Harbour clocked a Holden Cruze at 66kmh in a 50kmh zone at 6pm on May 31.

Officers caught up with the small red sedan in the carpark of World Gym.

Checks of Spalding’s licence revealed it had been disqualified for three months from April 5.

She was issued with a field court attendance notice and warned not to drive.

However, police spotted the car on Albany St, before it turned into Curacoa and Raleigh streets, about 40 minutes later.

The Cruze was pulled over and Spalding was arrested.

Later, on June 13, officers patrolling Coffs St spotted a Toyota Corolla turning right on to Castle St about 1pm.

“As police looked the driver was hiding her face with her left hand,” court documents state.

Police pulled over the car driven by Spalding, who was on bail for driving while disqualified on May 31.

Magistrate Julia Virgo said Spalding showed a disregard for court orders, but she had good prospects of rehabilitation and was set to complete a traffic offenders program.

Spalding entered guilty pleas and was convicted, fined $1700 in total, sentenced to serve a 14-month community corrections order and disqualified for three month and 12-month periods.
