A multifaceted police team had to contend with a large group of people gathered on a West Kempsey street as they moved to arrest a teenage boy on outstanding warrants.

Officers from Strike Force Kinnereth and general duties police were joined by the Proactive Crime Team, dog unit and POLAIR as they coverged on a home about 9.30pm on Thursday.

Police said a crowd tried to “intervene” during the arrest, but a 17-year-old boy hiding under a house was apprehended without incident.

He was taken to Kempsey Police Station and charged with the two outstanding warrants, as well as affray, and armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The two warrants relate to allegedly failing to comply with bail conditions and affray at West Kempsey on May 24.

The teen was refused bail to appear before Children’s Court on Friday.

Police investigations were ongoing.
