A motorcyclist at the centre of an aborted police pursuit through the heart of Coffs Harbour was brought undone by her distinctive hair style.

Lisa Marie Cummings of Newee Creek, was convicted in her absence last month at Coffs Harbour Local Court of police pursuit – not stop – driving recklessly (second offence).

The 33-year-old was self-represented when she appeared at court on Wednesday for sentencing.

She told the court she had been affected by a series of tragic events in her personal life.

“Last year was the toughest year that I’ve ever dealt with,” she said.

Cummings said she jumped on a motorbike after an argument and went for a ride out of frustration.

“It was selfish, careless and irresponsible,” she said.

Police facts state a motorcycle was observed travelling north on the Pacific Motorway about 3.20pm on November 18.

Officers noted in the documents that the rider’s distinctive long blonde-coloured plaited hair could be seen trailing from the helmet.

Police activated their vehicle’s lights and sirens near McLean St and directed the rider to stop for a random breath test.

The rider continued on and weaved in between vehicles, the documents state.

On Marcia St, the rider kicked out both feet from the motorcycle and proceeded through an intersection. Police terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns.

Police tracked down Cummings, who was spoken to at Macksville Police Station on December 22.

Cummings was shown in-car video of the pursuit, but denied being the rider.

However, officers noted she had long blonde ponytail-like plaits which had been braided through her hair, the documents state.

Cummings told the court: “I do have full remorse”.

She said she planned to move to live with her sister in Adelaide for a fresh start.

Magistrate Theresa Hamilton told the court Cummings was not assisted by her criminal history, but the incident in question was a relatively short pursuit.

“You really need to wake up to yourself,” she said.

Ms Hamilton warned Cummings would likely face a jail sentence if found guilty of further driving offences.

“Just stay out of trouble,” she said.

Cummings was convicted and sentenced to an 18-month community correction order.

She was disqualified from holding a driver’s licence for two years.
