A man allegedly spotted leaving a property on Ballina Rd in Lismore covered in blood after a domestic violence attack earlier this week has faced court.

Matthew Ronald Bell, 44, pleaded not guilty at Lismore Local Court on Tuesday to charges of intimidation and assault (domestic violence related).

Officers from Richmond Police District responded to reports of an assault at a premises on Ballina Rd in Lismore about 4pm on Monday, according to police.

It’s alleged a witness spotted Bell from North Lismore covered in blood stumbling down the stairs of a property located across the road from Zambreros in Lismore, before five police and two NSW Ambulance vehicles attended.

Bell was treated at the scene for a minor head injury by paramedics and taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a stable condition.

There were no reports of any other persons being injured.

Following inquiries, Bell was arrested over an alleged domestic incident occurring an hour earlier at a licensed premises on Woodlark St in Lismore, police stated.

Police allege the incident involved a 42-year-old woman known to Bell who lives at the Ballina Rd home Bell was seen leaving covered in blood.

Bell was taken to Lismore Police Station and charged.

He was refused bail by police and subsequently the court and will be kept behind bars.

Bell is due to return to Lismore Local Court on February 14.
