An elderly dirt bike rider has been flown to Coffs Harbour, and then Queensland, after he hit a tree in remote bushland.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to a crash scene at Buckra Bendinni, in the rugged hinterland west of Nambucca Heads, on Monday afternoon.

A man aged in his 70s sustained multiple injuries after his trail bike struck a tree near Hanging Rock Rd in the Dunggir National Park.

Due to the remote location, the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team was winched down to treat the man.

He was placed in a stretcher and winched up to the aircraft with the team.

After initially being flown to Coffs Harbour Hospital, the man’s condition worsened and he was transferred to Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
