Jamie Marshall faces Coffs court pleading guilty to assault, property damage

A Coffs Coast man who believed he was being denied “tribal stories” attacked a relative, but stopped short of hurling another family member’s oxygen tank, a court heard.

A Coffs Coast man lay siege to a loungeroom and punched a relative twice in the head when he became frustrated “family stories” were being kept secret from him, a court has heard.

Jamie Marshall, 35, also struck a woman in the face, Coffs Harbour Local Court was told.

Marshall pleaded guilty to a raft of charges including assault and damaging property when he faced the court on June 7.

Marshall went to a Nambucca Heads home on August 24 where two of his relatives were staying.

One of the victims suffers from numerous medical conditions and was connected to an oxygen bottle to help him breathe, while the second man was asleep in a bedroom.

Throughout the evening Marshall became agitated, believing the incapacitated victim was “withholding family/tribal stories”, according to court documents.

Marshall began screaming at the victim and the commotion woke the other man.

Things turned physical when Marshall punched and kicked holes in a loungeroom wall and moved to throw the victim’s oxygen bottle. Though, he decided against it.

“I’ll f--king bash you,” he said as he stood over one of the victims.

One of them walked out of the home in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

Marshall followed the man outside and punched him twice in the head – to the mouth and eye.

He also pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm at a Macksville address on August 28 2021. He “lashed out” and hit a woman in the face.

On January 10, Magistrate Stephen Olischlager will sentence him for that offence, and destroying or damaging property, stalking/intimidating, breaching an apprehended violence order and common assault.

Marshall has been released into the Balund-a residential diversionary program at Tabulam in northern NSW

Mr Olischlager warned Marshall would be breaching bail if he left or was discharged from the program before December 22.
