It was just before midnight when patrolling police pulled over a blue Commodore on Park Beach Road at Coffs Harbour.

Driver Justice Ashley Stewart, 22, of Coffs Harbour, underwent a random breath test, returned a positive reading and she was arrested on April 11.

Officers moving her car into a safe position on the roadway spotted two longneck bottles of Corona beer in the cup holders, one of which was half-empty, Coffs Harbour Local Court documents reveal.

Police also noticed “green vegetable matter” in the passenger footwell. Stewart denied the “vegetable matter” was hers. It was later determined to be 4.21 grams of cannabis.

Stewart was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and a breath analysis recorded a reading of 0.227 – more than four times the legal limit.

On Wednesday, Stewart pleaded guilty to possessing a prohibited drug and high-range drink driving.

The drink driving charge was initially categorised as a second offence. Magistrate Roger Prowse told the court Stewart had been charged with mid-range drink driving last year, but it was dismissed on appeal.

Mr Prowse adjourned the case to September 27.
