Elderly man accused of historic sexual abuse faces Taree court

An elderly man is facing a long list of historic sexual abuse allegations dating from the 1960s to the early ‘80s – including the rape of a 10-year-old relative.

A 77-year-old Mid-North Coast man is facing a long list of historic sex abuse charges, including the alleged rape of a 10-year-old relative in 1965.

It is alleged the man preyed on several young female victims from the mid 60s through to the early 80s in the Taree area.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victims, is on bail.

He faced Taree Local Court on Monday, where his case was adjourned to July 24.

Several charges have been withdrawn, but more than 10 have been confirmed.

Currently living in the Port Macquarie area, the man has not entered pleas to the charges.

In addition to the rape charge, the man faces several charges of inciting a female under the age of 16 to commit an act of indecency – allegedly forcing a girl to wash and powder his penis on one occasion.

Several more charges of assault and committing an act of indecency have also been laid.

It’s alleged the man grabbed a girl’s breasts and put his hands inside their clothing.

The charges relate to five separate females and it’s alleged one girl was offended against from the ages of nine to 14.
