E-bike battery blaze leaves Qld family homeless

A Queensland grandmother has been dealt a triple blow when her home burned down overnight in a horror house fire and she lost everything, the same year her life partner and 16-month-old grandson tragically died of separate illnesses.

Police and fire investigators were on scene following a house fire overnight on the Sunshine Coast that completely gutted a home.

Emergency services were called to blaze on Landsborough Maleny Rd, at Landsborough, at 5.50pm, Wednesday night.

A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said four crews arrived at 6pm to find the two-storey brick home “fully involved”.

She said there was “pretty significant damage” and a “partial roof and wall collapse”.

The fire was out by 9pm.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said one person was looked over for smoke inhalation following the fire but declined transport to hospital.

Queensland Police and fire investigators remained on scene Thursday morning as they worked to determine the cause of the fire.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a crime scene was declared and an investigation continued.

Landsborough grandmother Bronwyn McNeil has been left defeated again when she lost her home overnight.

Her granddaughter Abbie Pullen launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her.

“She lost her entire home in a house fire that destroyed everything. The home she worked so hard for,” Ms Pullen said.

“This year has been the worst year imaginable for Bronwyn.

“She lost her husband (Shane McNeil) as he became fatally ill and passed away. She lost her grandson Kenny at the age of 16 just three months later as he too became fatally ill and passed away.”

Now just months later she has lost her entire home, her clothes, her furniture and everything she ever owned.

“She was at work and came home to her house completely lit up in flames and nothing could be saved,” Ms Pullen said.

“Thankfully everyone is okay but Bronwyn is now left with nothing.

“She will need to financially survive and I’m hoping to relieve some of that financial stress by helping raise money to give her a head start in what is nothing but an absolute nightmare.”

This comes after a family lost everything when their home was destroyed in a blaze at Bundaberg early Wednesday morning.

Multiple firefighting crews fought for more than an hour to extinguish the fire which destroyed a house at Thabeban, leaving one person in hospital.

A neighbour and friend of the family, said it was “devastating”.

She said one of the family members had arrived home and sat down in the living room when a lithium battery from an e-bike exploded in the kitchen.
