A family is reeling and a tight-knit community west of Noosa is in mourning following the tragic death of a young boy in a buggy rollover at the family’s home last month.

Darcy Adams, aged eight, died in a buggy rollover incident on Friday, September 20, at his family’s Cooran home.

His mother, Noosa doctor Felicity Adams, is a general surgeon and a breast and endocrine surgeon at the Noosa Hospital.

Mr and Dr Adams released a joint statement for their beloved son.

“Our wonderful son Darcy was a spirited, joyful boy, full of love for life and the people around him,” they stated.

“Words cannot describe the grief we feel for the loss of our dear son, brother and grandson.

“We extend our sincere appreciation to the first responders including the police, ambulance, fire brigade and Life Flight services.

“We are grateful for the community’s support and respect for our privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”

A Queensland Police spokeswoman confirmed the death.

“Police will prepare a report for the corner following the sudden and non-suspicious death of child on a rural property in Cooran on September 20,” she said.

“Emergency services were called to a private property around 3.15pm to reports of an accident.

“The child died at the scene.”

A rescue helicopter was also sent to the scene and paramedics attempted to save his life.

The community of the small town west of Noosa was left reeling following the tragic accident.

Cooran fire station captain, Chester Penfold, posted on social media that the entire community was hurting.

“A tragic accident in this amazing community, along with the hurt of the family, is also that of your local fire crews and ambos,” Mr Penfold said.

Sarah Grant has since launched a GoFundMe fundraiser on behalf of LifeFlight Foundation Limited for the family.

“It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Darcy Adams in a tragic accident last Friday,” she said.

“Dr Adams, Simon, Flynn, family and friends thank everyone who has supported them through this difficult time.

“The whole community has been wonderful and they are beyond grateful for their love and support.

“They would also like to thank the emergency services and LifeFlight for all their efforts, compassion and professionalism at that time.

“Should you wish to support them during this time, we kindly ask that you donate to LifeFlight in lieu of flowers in remembrance of Darcy.”
