Two killed in crash on Wide Bay Highway near Goomeri
Tragic new details have come to light after an elderly couple crashed into a tree on a major regional highway near Gympie.

A second person has died in hospital after a tragic car crash near Goomeri last week.
A 78-year-old Murgon man and a 71-year-old Murgon woman were driving along the Wide Bay Hwy when their car smashed into a tree about five kilometres east of Goomeri on Thursday, March 20.
The woman died of her injuries at the scene, while the man was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital with life-threatening neck, chest and arm injuries.
Tragically, he died of his injuries on Sunday, March 23.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash about five kilometres east of Goomeri between Grant Rd and Boonara St, about 1.40pm last Thursday.
Police believe the crash happened earlier in the day and it was discovered by a passing driver.
Fireys were able to help the 78-year-old man get out of the car through the back door, but were forced to cut the car doors off to free the trapped woman.
Tragically, she was unable to be saved and died at the scene.
Police investigations were continuing.
