Woman killed in crash on Wide Bay Highway near Goomeri

A Murgon woman has died and a man has been left fighting for life after their car hit a tree on the Wide Bay Highway near Goomeri.

A 71-year-old Murgon woman has been killed and a Murgon man left fighting for his life after their car left the Wide Bay Highway and hit a tree outside Goomeri on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the scene of the crash, on the Wide Bay Highway about 5km east of Goomeri between Grant Rd and Boonara St, about 1.40pm.

Police said it was believed the crash happened earlier in the day and it was discovered by a passing driver.

Fireys were able to help the 78-year-old man get out of the car through the back door, but were forced to cut the car doors off to free the trapped woman.

Tragically, she was unable to be saved and died at the scene.

The man suffered serious neck, chest, and arm injuries and was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.

Police investigations were continuing.
