Victim’s dad collapses at site of horror fatal crash

The grief-stricken father of one of three young people killed in a horror crash on the Gold Coast Sunday night has collapsed at the scene of the tragedy. It comes as both other victims have now been identified.

The grief-stricken father of one of three young people killed in a horror crash on the Gold Coast Sunday night has collapsed at the scene of the tragedy.

Arthur Thompson, father of 21-year-old Bryton Thompson who died in the crash at Upper Coomera, visited the scene on Rifle Range Rd Monday afternoon accompanied by police.

He collapsed into grass next to a floral tribute to his son and the other two victims – Bryton’s cousin James Hunter, 21, from Pimpama, and Mr Hunter’s girlfriend Marnie Zuk, 17, from Loganlea.

The three were in a car which slammed into another vehicle, leaving the driver of that vehicle seriously injured.

With his head in his hands, Arthur Thompson was comforted by a television reporter after he collapsed at the scene Monday afternoon.

He placed a flower at the scene and appeared to pick up some crash debris.

Friends of Bryton Thompson, of Loganlea, have taken to Facebook to express their shock and grief.

“Losing a workmate is like losing family,” friend Billy McKinnon posted.

“The terrible news I received late last night of a young bloke who works for me passing away in a car wreck will be forever in my mind.

“It’s always the good people who are taken from us way too soon. Rest In Peace Bryton Thompson you’ll be missed severely mate.”

Another friend, Ryan Jamieson, posted: “Rest in peace brother, you were such a kind and generous soul that was taken way too early, I will always remember you brother. Much love homie. Until we meet again. Gone but never forgotten Bryton Thompson.”

Mr Thompson’s Facebook profile says he was in a long-term relationship but his partner was not involved in the crash.

The crash happened about 6pm Sunday and closed Rifle Range Rd for several hours.
