A parent of the sole survivor of a horror high-speed crash on the Gold Coast which has left three people dead has pleaded for drivers to slow down.

Two men and a woman, believed to be from the same family, were killed in the crash on Rifle Range Rd at Upper Coomera about 6pm on Sunday.

All three were in one vehicle which was believed to have crashed into another car driven by a 28-year-old man, who was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.

“My son was driving home from work and was hit by the other car that was estimated to be doing over 150 k’s an hour killing, I believe all the occupants in that car,” the parent posted on Facebook.

“My son has hip and leg damage but will survive, my condolences to the parents of the other people who have lost their lives in this terrible accident, I feel so sorry for your families, please slow down.”

Gold Coast High Acuity Response Unit (HARU) Paramedic Gary Berkowitz said the accident was one of the most shocking scenes he’d ever attended.

Mr Berkowitz said the “distressing” scene was riddled with “a lot of human sadness”.

“Three (people) were trapped in various ways,” he said.

“It was quite confronting with members of the public assisting those who were injured.

“Good people did their best to help those who were injured and in pain and suffering.”

At least one of those people was treated by paramedics for shock and “anxiety related problems … from what they saw”.

“At least eight paramedics” responded to the incident.

“Our thoughts to the survivors of those who tragically lost their lives,” Mr Berkowitz said.

Mr Berkowitz said not even experienced paramedics could be unaffected by the horror of such a terrible tragedy.

“It does certainly take a toll,” he said.

“I think what allows me to rest my pillow on my head and go to sleep at night is that good people did their best to help people who were injured and in pain and suffering.

“We hopefully all got home and realised that we did our best.”

A fourth patient, who was not involved in the crash but was a bystander, was treated for shock at the scene.

“We don’t have a history of serious crashes in this area,” Acting Inspector Donna Stewart told media.

“It’s quite a nice road and, obviously, the conditions are quite good.

“It will take forensic crash unit a little bit of time to work out exactly why this accident occurred.”

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have dashcam vision is urged to contact police.
