An elderly woman allegedly murdered by her son has been remembered at an emotional community vigil in Brisbane’s northwest on Sunday afternoon.

Cecilia Webb, 79, was allegedly murdered by Alexander Clive Webb, 40, in the front yard of her home at The Gap last Monday.

Webb was arrested at Brisbane International Airport just hours after he allegedly stabbed Ms Webb.

Close to 100 community members shared tributes for Ms Webb at the local Moses Adsett Park, remembering her as a bright, kind woman.

Local MP Jonty Bush, whose own sister was murdered in a domestic violence incident in 2000, was one of those who paid tribute.

Ms Bush’s younger sister Jacinta, 19, was stabbed 41 times in a Mooloolaba Hotel, leaving behind her young daughter from a previous relationship.

Her killer, Kris Slade, was eventually found guilty of her murder.

“As important as it is to be here today, we can’t escape the reality that we are here because an absolutely traumatic, tragic event has happened and has touched the lives of so many,” Ms Bush said.

The dozens of community members embraced and held hands as emotional messages were read by friends.

Ms Webb’s friend Tim Lintern said: “She was charming, intelligent, friendly, she was a really wonderful person to know even though I didn’t get to see her very often.

“I knew her for years through my mother, they were very close friends and that was recommendation enough for her to take a shine to me immediately.”

“My mum would talk of her very often.”

“Please remember her, she was a good woman.”

Community members left flowers and handwritten notes below a tree, sharing words they never had the chance to speak to Ms Webb.

Ms Bush said it was special to see the community come together to remember an amazing woman.

“Some of the stories passed on from friends, family and neighbours of Cecilia was how hardworking she was, how much she loved her family, and how caring she was,” she said.

“She has touched the lives of so many here.”

“There’s been a couple of stories already today around how she went an extra mile for people in the neighbourhood or people who were her students.”

Former student Yvonne Yau said Ms Webb taught her neurology 40 years ago.

“My memory of her really shows she was a dedicated teacher, she wasted no time,” she said.

“It’s sad in a way that we could not catch up with her one last time.”

Cecilia Webb is the 15th woman allegedly killed by violence in Australia in 2025.

Ms Bush said that number is too high.

“Many of us are feeling exhausted by that statistic and genuinely very frightened,” she said.

“She is more than the statistic the end of her life created.”

Alexander Clive Webb was remanded in custody to reappear in court on April 22 on a charge of domestic violence murder.
