A young Dalby woman has been hit with a hefty fine after she was caught driving a vehicle with false plates and a registration which had expired 1005 days prior.

Hailie Jane Steer, 21, appeared in Dalby Magistrates Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to receiving tainted property, obstructing police, property damage, public nuisance and driving unlicensed and unregistered.

The court was told that on January 23, 2025 in Logan, police intercepted Steer in her vehicle as she pulled into Woolworths.

Police ran a check and discovered the plates did not match the vehicle they were registered to, with Steer telling officers she had been given the plates by a man at a petrol station.

When police questioned her about who the man was Steer remained tight lipped.

Steer was also found to be unlicensed with the vehicle’s registration also expired by 1005 days.

When police ordered Steer to move on she reportedly flew into a rage calling them “f--king dogs” before she was subsequently arrested and placed into a police van.

While in the van Steer kicked at the rear driver’s panel causing $700 worth of damage to the vehicle.

Magistrate Kathleen Payne told Steer who is a single mother of one that she was at “risk losing of her child” if she continued down this path.

She was ordered to pay $2500 in fines, received a three month loss of licence, ordered to pay $700 restitution for the damaged police car and was convicted with no further punishment for the obstruct and public nuisance charges.

No conviction was recorded.
