Cast members in showstopping Dracula’s proposal on Gold Coast

THEY’VE performed in more than 20 countries – but the stage of one Gold Coast’s Dracula’s live cabaret shows was the place Bray Buenrostro chose to propose to his girlfriend Lauren Skopalova in a showstopping experience.

The exotic show called Muertos, which the pair will perform in until next October, ended with lights out, but Miss Skopalova wasn’t being rushed off stage like normal.

“I had no idea – we usually finish our act in a blackout and run off and I was wondering why Bray wasn’t rushing me off and then all of a sudden the lights came on and our manager Richard came on all dressed up and I thought ‘what is going on here?’,” she said.

“He started talking about family and I was introducing them and I was thinking where is this going, and Bray was acting quite well, acting surprised so I thought that he didn’t know what was going on.

“And then all of a sudden when he got the microphone I thought ‘oh I see what could be happening here’ – it was really sweet, but of course we were still half naked in costume so I was trying to stay in character too.”

Mr Buenrostro said he had been planning the proposal – which was complete with their families in the front row of the balcony – for months with the help of some friends and members from Dracula’s.

“We’ve been together for five years and that’s a pretty good number to drop the ring on the finger,” he said.

“It’s hard to do a showstopper so they will never, ever stop the show unless there’s a dangerous circumstance so it was really nice I was able to stop the show in the middle of it to allow me to do this special moment.

“It was a very nice gesture to have our friends and family but the reason I chose to do it in character on stage is because it’s part of our passion to be doing this job – if you can call it a job – and obviously being at Dracula’s is a very special thing to us.

“Having the audience part of it couldn’t be any better because they were really enjoying and supportive … they almost had me in tears.”

The happy couple, known as one of Australia’s most alluring entertainment couple for their versatility of acrobatic skills, detailed choreography and edgy style, spent today celebrating on the beach.
