A man and a boy have been left with shocking injuries after they were hit by a car while crossing a Gold Coast street. Police are investigating.

The 40-year-old man and a 6-year-old boy were walking across Waterways Drive around 4pm when an oncoming car collided with them, police say.

The 6 year-old sustained facial fractures, while the 40-year-old sustained abrasions to his fingers, lower back and legs.

Both were taken to gold coast university hospital and remain in stable conditions.

The driver of the car, a 41-year-old man, was uninjured.

Police are investigating.
