The Queensland Ambulance Service rushed to the site, along with the Queensland Police Service and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
The man’s car crashed near the William Condon Bridge on the Ring Rd, which goes over the Little Bohle River.
Preliminary investigations indicate around 3.30am Saturday morning the car allegedly struck a kangaroo.
Due to the impact, the vehicle travelled off the roadway and down the side of an embankment, 100m from the William Condon Bridge.
The vehicle also ploughed through a large fence when it went off the road.
When police located the vehicle this afternoon they found a 40-year-old Kirwan man, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Forensic Crash Unit investigations are continuing.
