A Brisbane woman who is accused of stabbing her husband in the chest before setting their home on fire has been granted bail after offering up a $100k surety.

Pierina Daidone was charged with attempted murder and endangering a particular property by fire after the incident in Brisbane’s north last February.

It was reported at the time that Roberto Guiseppe Zumbo was rushed to hospital on February 2 after Daidone allegedly stabbed him in the chest with a serrated kitchen knife, on the front porch of their Grange family home.

Mr Zumbo survived the incident after receiving treatment at Royal Brisbane Women and Children’s Hospital.

Daidone has since spent over 600 days in custody on remand, with her marriage now dissolved, the Brisbane Supreme Court was told at her bail application on Monday.

Defence lawyer Jim Coburn said his client had no contact with her former husband anymore and that her primary focus, if granted bail, would be her mother’s health.

The court heard Daidone’s mother had recently been moved to an aged care facility, and that Daidone would reside at her now-vacant home if granted bail.

Daidone offered up a $100,000 surety, and proposed to comply with a strict evening curfew and electronic monitoring.

Justice Frances Williams noted there was evidence Daidone’s marriage had been “tumultuous” and “fraught with difficulties on both sides”.

But she said the allegations were an isolated incident as Daidone had no criminal history, and that the proposed bail address would remove her from the domestic setting.

Justice Williams noted initial mental health investigations indicated Daidone didn’t seem to require management, but a psychiatrist’s report was still being prepared at this stage.

She said the length of time Daidone had spent in custody was concerning, particularly as she was contesting the circumstances of the attempted murder charge.

Justice Williams ultimately granted bail under conditions that she adhere to an evening curfew, residential condition, report three days a week, not contact the complainant or witnesses, not travel interstate, obtain a mental health care plan and be fitted with an electronic tracking device.

Daidone is expected to stand trial at a later date.
