Currumbin MP Laura Gerber says an extended bus network to the airport in lieu of light rail is an option which will be considered if the LNP win government.
The Opposition has vowed to pause and review the light rail project, which is planned to run between Burleigh Heads and the border via Gold Coast Airport.
The tramline has the backing of the Labor state government, the Gold Coast City Council, Gold Coast Airport, the federal government, business leaders and until recently the LNP.
However Ms Gerber, who holds Currumbin with an ultra-thin margin, said other options would be looked at.
“We will put the brakes on light rail stage 4 to allow for our community to properly be consulted,” she said.
“We will put the brakes on so things like electric buses can be considered, heavy rail can be considered and east-west connections can be considered.”
