CCTV has captured the shocking moment a driver loses control of his car and ploughs into the front of a western Sydney home.
Residents were startled by a “huge bang” on Whitford Road, Hinchinbrook around 7.30pm on Friday night, when a 29-year-old man lost control of his car and smashed through the front of a home.
Fortunately, the driver, and his passenger, a 29-year-old woman, were uninjured.
The occupants of the home also escaped injury, and were understood to be in another room at the time of the incident.
CCTV footage captured the incident, and showed the driver seemingly being followed closely by another vehicle at high speeds, before he lost control.
The other vehicle continues driving after the crash, as neighbours can be heard screaming and running to assist the driver of the crashed vehicle.
Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The home suffered major structural damage as a result of the collision, with the operation to stabilise the home and remove the car taking several hours.
The shocking sight of a car inside a house was no surprise to Hinchinbrook residents, who say dangerous driving has become the norm.
Engin Kara lives directly across the road from the scene of the crash on Whitford Road and said accidents frequently occur on the road.
“I live here and drive down this street every day for work, and every second day or something you see a fence knocked down for some reason … a car’s gone through an intersection and into a house,” he said.
“There is no one that does 50kmph down this road. It’s always fast, fast, fast,” Mr Kara said.
He said it’s not the first time the Whitford Road house has fallen victim to dangerous driving, with another car ploughing into the property “five or six years ago.”
“Someone came around the intersection and rolled their car after hitting a tree and landed in their lawn,” Mr Kara said.
His daughter, 19-year-old Aysenur Kara witnessed the crash.
“I had opened my door to go outside and I literally watched the Hilux and the small white car going really fast and then the white car swerved into the garden bed and then directly into the house,” she said.
“It was a really loud bang, and they came out after in shock. The passenger and driver were fine. The (owners) came out, thankfully fine too, they weren’t in the room when it happened,” Ms Kara said.
Mr Kara said he had contacted police and the council before, requesting the road be made safer.
“You’re immune to it now. You're just waiting for what’s going to happen next”, he said.
