What you said about plane etiquette on domestic flights

A self-confessed ‘Karen’ has been taken down after she complained about poor in-flight etiquette. HAVE YOUR SAY

Etiquette or idiots?

Few things stir emotions quite like a plane flight, as News Corp columnist Ann “Peak Karen” Wason Moore highlighted.

Firstly, there was the issue of those who recline their seats – is this OK or does it make you a monster?

About 45 per cent of more than 2000 online voters declared it rude to recline your seat during a flight.

Another 45 per cent voted that it’s OK depending on both the length of the flight and duration of the recline.

When it comes to “space invaders” – those who use up more than their share of room – about 96 per cent voted that you have to be aware of your space at all times.

The final problem highlighted was about those who jump up as soon as the flight lands to grab their bag; about 60 per cent of reader voted that they are happy to wait to collect luggage.

Roughly 6 per cent admitted to making sure they are among the first off the plane.

The topics sparked furious debate online: many readers declared that flights are a nightmare at the best of times.

Others pleaded for more courtesy to be shown, while some insisted it’s every person for themselves.

WHAT YOU SAID

Flights are nightmares

Steve

People wearing back packs down the isles swinging all over the place hitting people without a care in the world Then they try and squash their “oversize” pack into the overhead banging about so you cant get your bag out midflight if you need something

Pieter

There’s no guarantee on overhead space.

If only economy had foot rests, ive got the worst case of fidgety feet in the universe. Lifting them off the floor for an hour would help. I cant work out why they aren't installed in economy, particularly on long haul flights

Everyone for themselves

Lynden

I always book aisle seats and get up straight away for a couple of reasons.

The first is to have a chance at getting up into the aisle before the stampede comes through without letting me in and the second is to allow those sitting beside me or across from me the same opportunity.

I must admit I love blocking the people coming behind me in a rush who have no intention of letting me or anyone else get up …

I will recline when I want, it takes away no leg room from behind, you don’t like it, upgrade

Brett

I can’t work out why it is impolite to recline from a bolt upright sitting position which is extremely uncomfortable and bad for your back when there is a recline option available. If everyone reclines then everyone has the same amount of room.

Just Me

I do my arm push and knee exercises into the back of the reclined seat, if the idiot complains, I just say I have my rights to make people uncomfortable too, generally solves the problem.

I know the problem

Yeah Nah

It’s all because people for the most part are stupid

Bret

No issue with anyone reclining seat between meals on any flight above 2 hours. Purchase extra leg room and of course no dramas at all. My issues are with airlines cramming so many people in.

ian

Plane go up and the plane comes down. Grab your luggage and go. All the rest of this bs.

PENDING

Of course there is the other type of space invader – those who are ‘physically wide’, for want of a better term. Such people should either book 2 seats or fly business class.

Make sure you don’t go “manspreading” when on a plane.

Use some manners

Tea for Two

I always ask the person behind me if I can recline my seat. I will happily wait until after they have finished eating.

Rob

If you are in a window seat then get on-board promptly. If you want an overhead bin then also get on promptly.

Robbo

Should never use the headrest on the seat in front to pull yourself up. It it not installed for that purpose!!!

What about …

Tryfan

The other awful experience is the kid in the row behind who kicks the back of your seat and his ‘responsible’ adult does nothing!

David

Disagree with the ‘one armrest each’ rule. In my book the middle seat has two armrests, aisle and window each have one.

A

It’s the baggage claim area that drives me mad. People stand right beside the carousel so no one can get to it to collect their bag. There should be a line marked that you have to wait behind until you see your bag, then move closer to collect it.
