Richard Alexander Davis in court on manslaughter charges

A 30-year-old man accused of causing a Mullumbimby crash which resulted in the deaths of two people will defend the charges in a district court trial.

A Brunswick Heads man accused of causing a crash which resulted in the deaths of a husband and wife will defend his charges in the Lismore District Court.

Richard Alexander Davis, 30, appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court on Friday where his matters were mentioned.

Mr Davis has pleaded not guilty to two counts of manslaughter and two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death.

Charges of negligent driving occasioning death, not keeping left of a dividing line, not keeping left of a median strip and not turning right from the correct side of a centre line were also referred to the District Court.

It is alleged Davis was the driver of a Nissan Juke which crashed with a Toyota HiLux on Mullumbimby Road, 2km south of Mullumbimby, about 11.45am on September 1, 2019.

The driver of the HiLux, Peter Bolan, 80, was flown to Gold Coast University Hospital however died several days later.

His wife Anne Bolan, 79, died at the scene.

Mr Davis was represented by lawyer Vince Boss when he was committed to stand trial.

His matters are next due for mention in Lismore District on February 7, 2022.
