Plans revealed for $6.5 million apartments, shops near Cabarita Beach at Bogangar in Tweed Shire

A new multimillion dollar apartment and commercial project has been proposed for a coastal town in the Tweed Shire. See what’s in the works.

A new $6.5 million apartment and commercial development has been proposed for a spot a stone's throw away from Cabarita Beach at Bogangar in the Tweed Shire.

The planned mixed-use development on Tweed Coast Rd would include nine apartments and two shops over three and four storeys.

It would have a basement car park accommodating 20 vehicles.

The apartments would be a mix of two, three and four-bedroom apartments, including terraces and balconies.

Project architect Chris Morrison states in the plans: “The layout of each apartment is considered to enhance a healthy indoor/outdoor coastal living lifestyle.”

Mr Morrison said the mixture of apartment layouts would provide housing to accommodate different budgets and lifestyles.

“The intent of the design is to offer highly considered beachside living – the apartment development aims to reinforce the idea of coastal living,” he states.

“Living spaces connect to covered decks and terraces would minimise the reliance on airconditioning systems to create a comfortable living environment.”

The architect states the sought-after location “offers excellent access to public open spaces whilst promoting active and social lifestyles”.

“The convenient location of the site to beaches, parks, Tweed Hinterland, and community groups will encourage leisurely use of the nearby environmental and community assets,” he said.

“The nearby retail zone provides opportunities for social interaction whilst encouraging local business.”

The land is currently an empty lot, just down the road is the Cabarita Beach Hotel and Cabarita Woolworths.

Town Planner Joanne Kay states the character, operation, streetscape and amenity of the area would be improved by the development.

“There will likely be positive social and economic impacts resulting from improved residential accommodation and commercial spaces within the Bogangar local centre,” she said.

“The development will increase employment opportunities and have a multiplier effect on the local economy.”
