Concept designs for the new Murwillumbah Education Campus have been unveiled showcasing the multimillion-dollar planned facility.
The new school will combine the Murwillumbah Public School, Murwillumbah East Public School, Murwillumbah High School and Wollumbin High School into one campus at the Murwillumbah High School site.
The school has been criticised by some with concerns flagged about the number of jobs which could be lost and the way it was announced.
Education Minister Sarah Mitchell said the designs were created after months of consultation, including a community survey, information hub and staff workshops.
“The designs are unlike anything we have built in NSW, they show beautiful landscaping with outdoor learning areas, world-class classrooms and facilities for sports and performing arts,” Ms Mitchell said.
“The campus is about providing the best place for students to learn, it is visionary, exciting and will be the heart of this community.”
Member for Tweed Geoff Provest said the new campus will be the pride of the community once completed.
“This campus will be the jewel of education for the North Coast, rivalling some of the country’s best schools, providing an incredible place to nurture students so they can achieve their best,” Mr Provest said.
“The primary school will deliver new flexible learning environments as well as a new school hall, library, canteen, school support unit, and outdoor play and sports areas.
“The high school will provide new flexible learning environments including specialised learning spaces and facilities for entertainment, primary industries, and hospitality.
“It will also deliver a new library, hall, canteen and outdoor spaces including new sports courts.”
The concept designs will be available to view at a virtual information session which will be available online from 12pm on Monday September 13 to 5pm on Friday September 17, 2021.
