NSW has recorded six road fatalities in just four days — including a pregnant woman who lost her unborn baby, a 98-year-old pedestrian, and multiple others in crashes that have stretched from the state’s north to the far South Coast.

The wave of crashes began on Friday and continued into Monday morning.

The most recent incident occurred early on Monday morning at Fennell Bay, west of Newcastle, where a 38-year-old woman died after her Suzuki hatchback collided with an Alfa Romeo shortly before 1am. The Suzuki crashed through a fence and hit a tree.

The other driver, a 37-year-old man, returned a negative roadside breath test and was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

Hours earlier on Sunday night, a 98-year-old man was killed while crossing Cessnock Rd at the intersection with Kilaben St in Awaba.

Police say he was struck by a white ute about 7pm. He died at the scene. The 49-year-old driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. A crime scene was established as investigations continue.

In another incident, a pregnant woman lost her unborn baby in a crash early on Sunday morning in Newcastle.

Just after 2.40am, police observed a Holden sedan allegedly driving dangerously on Newcastle Rd at North Lambton. Officers did not initiate a pursuit due to safety concerns.

A short time later, the Holden collided with a Hyundai sedan.

The 55-year-old passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene. The driver, a 28-year-old woman who was 25 weeks pregnant, was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition. Despite medical efforts, her unborn baby could not be saved.

The Holden driver fled the scene. Two teenage passengers — girls aged 15 and 17 — were taken to hospital under police guard.

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission are conducting a critical incident investigation.

On Saturday night, a single-vehicle crash at Tura Beach on the far South Coast claimed the life of a man believed to be in his 40s.

Police say a white sedan rolled on Sapphire Coast Drive just after 7.30pm.

Two men were critically injured and taken to hospital, with the passenger later dying. The driver was airlifted to Canberra Hospital.

Friday was marked by two more fatal crashes.

At Bangheet, 90km east of Moree, a 56-year-old man died when a Ford Ranger rolled at around 3.50pm. Despite CPR efforts, he could not be revived.

The 47-year-old female driver was airlifted to hospital, while two passengers — aged nine and 25 — were unharmed.

Police are appealing for witnesses, especially the driver of a green dual-cab ute seen in the area.

Earlier that afternoon, a 46-year-old truck driver was killed near Lismore after his vehicle veered off Bangalow Rd at Clunes and hit a tree. He died at the scene.

Reports for the Coroner will be prepared for each of the fatalities. Investigations are continuing.
