Police charge six people after alleged affray linked to death of Ramone Gordon
Police have arrested and charged six men and a teenage boy following an alleged affray and death of Goonellabah man Ramone Gordon earlier this month in NSW’s north.
Police will allege a preâdawn brawl in Goonellabah on November 7 led to the death of 25âyearâold Ramone Gordon and a second man’s hospitalisation, triggering arrests and court appearances through late November and early December.
About 2.50am on Friday, November 7, a 31‑year‑old man was taken to Lismore Base Hospital with serious head injuries.
He was later flown to Gold Coast University Hospital and has since been released, police said.
About 6.20am the same morning, emergency services were called to Fischer St, Goonellabah, where the body of Mr Gordon was found on a nearby walking track.
Police formed Strike Force Pineshaw, led by Richmond Police District with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
A separate critical incident investigation was also launched to review the actions of police who responded that morning.
Following inquiries, detectives allege several men were involved in a brawl at Clifford Park earlier that day.
On Thursday, November 20, detectives arrested a 23‑year‑old Lismore man in relation to the incident.
He was charged with two counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, affray, reckless wounding in company (allegedly with others), and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
He is due to face Lismore Local Court on Monday, December 1.
About 6.20am on Thursday, November 27, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at a home in Goonellabah.
Police say they seized knives, bats, a gel blaster and a compound bow.
Five men and a 17‑year‑old boy were arrested at the home, escorted to Lismore Police Station, and charged.
The group appeared in the Bail Division Court on Friday before Magistrate Miranda Moody and Acting Magistrate S Wills. The charges and outcomes were:
■ Raymond Terrence Welsh, 23: charged with affray and reckless wounding in company. Bail refused; to reappear at Lismore Local Court on Monday 8 December.
■ Lachlan Stephenson‑Bolt, 18: charged with affray and reckless wounding in company. Granted strict conditional bail with daily police reporting, a curfew, non‑contact orders, random drug testing, and abstinence from drugs and alcohol. He must not enter a Cassia Crescent property in Goonellabah and must provide police with his mobile phone SIM and passwords. Due back at Lismore Local Court on Monday 8 December.
■ Ezekiel Stephenson‑Bolt, 21: charged with affray and reckless wounding in company. Granted strict conditional bail with daily police reporting, a curfew, non‑contact orders, random drug testing, and abstinence from drugs and alcohol. Due back at Lismore Local Court on Monday 8 December.
■ Michael Stephenson‑Bolt, 22: charged with affray; reckless wounding in company; wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; and two counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. He was taken to hospital and had not appeared before the court at time of publication.
■ Tyson Joseph Walker‑Stephenson, 27: charged with affray; reckless wounding in company; and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence. He did not apply for bail and the court refused bail.
■ A 17‑year‑old boy: charged with affray and reckless wounding in company. Granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Thursday 11 December.
Strike Force Pineshaw investigations into Mr Gordon’s death and the events leading up to it are continuing, police said while the critical incident investigation into the police response remains underway.
