A Sydney street was placed into lock-down on Saturday morning after a man allegedly threatened several people with a machete.
Police rushed to the intersection of Norton and Marion streets. Leichhardt around 10.30am, before the man allegedly fled into a nearby property where he barricaded himself inside.
A NSW Police tactical response unit were sent in alongside negotiators before the man was arrested following a stand off with police.
Emergency services were called to the scene, with a spokesperson for NSW Police confirming that there had been “quite a big police presence”.
At 12.30pm police arrested the man without incident and have taken him to Newtown Police Station, where he is assisting police with enquiries.
Buses were diverted to Cromwell and Elswick St after police had shut down Marion St.
“No one has been reportedly been injured,” they said.
The streets have since been re-opened to the public.
Inquiries into the surrounding incident remain ongoing.
