A manhunt is under way after three men allegedly armed with “big” knives stormed a Lennox Head home overnight before threatening residents and fleeing the scene in two stolen cars.
About 12.25am on Friday morning, police were called to Gibbon St after the alleged home invasion.
Richmond Police District officers were told by horrified family members that three men entered the home and threatened the occupants – two men aged 36 and 37 – with a knife – before demanding the keys to a Kia Sportage and a Mitsubishi Pajero, a NSW Police spokesman said.
The three men then fled the home in the two stolen vehicles, before they were later found abandoned in Casino.
The residents were not injured, the spokesman said.
In the wake of the frightening incident, one of the homeowners took to social media to speak out about the ordeal.
“Two cars stolen from Gibbon St at knifepoint tonight by three masked thieves ... our front lights were on and my son-in-law and his friend were awake (during the invasion),” she wrote on Facebook.
“The cars both had personal items, baby seats, horse gear and presents inside.
“The thieves woke up our four-year-old granddaughter. They threatened to come back and kill us if we called the police. Insane.”
The woman said the men were all wearing balaclavas and each were holding “big knives”.
She said they walked through the front door and “the lights were on and people were still up”.
