A piece of Anthony Munkara magic in the first quarter helped set the tone for a game of celebration for the Tiwi Bombers.

With Tiwi veteran Roy Kantilla announcing his intention to hang up the boots after the final siren, the Bombers sent the club legend out a winner in emphatic fashion over Darwin Buffaloes.

The Bombers also stoked their finals fire with a brilliant opening three quarters, cruising home to a 16.13 (109) to 7.9 (51) win over Darwin.

While Kantilla celebrated his final match with a pair of goals, and even had the final say with a booming spiral from the boundary line after the siren - which ony narrowly missed the middle sticks - the moment of the match belonged to Munkara.

In a moment of Munkara magic, the Tiwi full forward appeared to bend the laws of physics to score the side’s third goal in the opening 10 minutes.

At full pace and with his momentum taking him over the sideline, Munkara dropped the ball onto the outside of his right slipper to grubber it through the middle sticks.

The ball bent it’s way around the corner to set the tone for a thrilling performance for the Bombers.

The island boys were unstoppable in the opening half, with their pace and ability to find space on the field, causing plenty of headaches for the Buffaloes.

Kim Kantilla led from the front with four goals, while Michael Thompson and Munkara finished with three goals each.

Thompson was another best on ground contender with both his ability to find a ball bursting through the middle and knocking his share of goals.

Tom Simpson and Cameron Stokes both finished with two goals each for the Buffaloes, who finished the match strongly with four goals in the second half.

PREVIEW

The Tiwi Bombers proved they can mix it with the best when they beat St Mary’s heading into the break, and that momentum will hold them in good stead against the Darwin Buffaloes.

The NT News and KommunityTV will stream every moment of this clash from 4.30pm on Saturday.

The Bombers pulled off one of the more stunning comebacks of the season so far scoring just one goal for the first half before blowing the game open in the second to beat the premiers.

It was a win Tiwi needed after a midseason slump and proved the side will be a contender come the end of the year should they stay on their current course.

The likes of Marlion Pickett and Matthew Parker have been instrumental in the club’s resurgence, but it’s the core of exciting Tiwi players that gives the side its edge.

As it stands they go in with overwhelming favouritism against a still winless Darwin Buffaloes, which will take their main advantage from having an extra week off in the break.

The Double Blues skipper, Jarrod Stokes, has been as dominant as ever and with a shed full of possessions each week is one of the league’s best players.

His efforts just haven’t quite been enough to draw a win out of the season and with the clock ticking he will need some support to avoid a winless season.

Watch the full replay at the end of the game.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to live stream both the men’s and women’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
