Thousands of punters made their way to the 2023 Darwin Cup for all the best of racing, fashion and entertainment. SEE THE PHOTOS.

Stunning colours and local patterns were on display as the best of local fashion took centre stage in front of thousands of happy punters at the 2023 edition of the Darwin Cup.

Bianca Heron has been competing in the Fashions on the Field for the past 10 years, but wearing an outfit designed by friends and local designers she finally triumphed in the overall competition.

Wearing a dress sewn by Tatiana Hoffmann from Freyzzy Designs and designed by local painter Margie Joy she was named the best dressed in a highly-competitive field.

“I’m incredibly excited, shocked and really happy to win,” Ms Heron said.

“I was in shock, it was unexpected, it’s always such a tough competition and everyone was amazing so it was a shock.

“I’ve been doing this for about 10 years now because it’s an opportunity to show off wear great outfits and it’s always great to show local talent.

“It generally takes weeks or months of planning but this was a last minute decision and I’m just really thankful I have great friends to help put it together.

“I love all the colours people wear on Cup Day, it’s fantastic and just makes it such a fun day.”

Aside from the fashion, Cup Day was the perfect chance for punters and tourists to enjoy top quality racing and entertainment over the long weekend.

And for lifelong friends such as Delwyn Castellano, Deb Hetherington and Pam Dijkgraaf it was a chance to connect while on holiday.

“We’ve known each other for over 50 years and we met up in Darwin for the fashion and to have a lovely day together,” Castellano said.

“I’m up from Melbourne and it’s my first Darwin Cup, and it’s just such a great day, a great opportunity for old friends to catch up and enjoy a day out.”
