Darwinite Brooke Prince rates Ladies Day as one of the best of Carnival as she and thousands of like-minded Territorians get the chance to show off the best of Top End fashion.
Ms Prince has been a regular at the midweek Ladies Day for the past 15 years and enjoys being part of every race meet.
“I love Ladies Day, I’ve been a participant for about 15 years now and it’s one of the best days at the track,” she said.
“The Cup Carnival is one of the best things that happens around the Top End and it’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the Dry Season with friends.”
She was one of many returners to the day in which Territorians and interstaters get to enjoy the Carnival atmosphere while showing off their best fashion.
The TAB Pavilion also came to life with entertainment, prizes and giveaways throughout the day.
Sarah Chau was excited for another full day at the races bringing along a few of her work mates so they could experience the day for the first time.
“It’s just a day with the girls from work where we can relax and have a really good time bonding,” she said.
It was the first time at the Darwin racecourse for Gold Coast native Jessica Perks who was visiting the Top End for a friends wedding.
She made her own fascinator to mark the occasion with orchids she had found.
“We’re travelling around Australia at the moment, but our friends live here so we stopped by for their wedding,” she said.
“This is our first time at the races, we’re really excited and will be here for Derby Day and the Darwin Cup as well.”
The Darwin Cup Carnival will continue in the coming weeks with Derby Day on Saturday where black and white are the theme of the day.
And the big day takes place on August 7 with thousands expected to cram into the Turf Club for the world class racing, fashion and entertainment.
Meanwhile, in the racing champion trainer Gary Clarke won one of the few NT trophies to have eluded him, the Bridge Toyota Cup.
Wolfburn, ridden by Jarrod Todd went straight to the front from the 1600m start, and while he was joined by Boom Boom Sweet and Bat Pad he never gave up the fence.
Todd went for home on the point of the turn and after such a gorgeous run in front, had plenty in the tank, bolting clear to win by just over two lengths from Great Diviner.
Clarke was pleasantly suprised by the result which saw him complete the podium with Loveplanet, while daughter Ella Clarke trained fourth-placed Ironedge.
“Well you learn something new every day – it was nice to not only win it for the first time but to trifecta the race,” he said.
Guineas-winning apprentice Emma Lines continued her hot streak of form with her first treble courtesy of Afternoon Tea, Star Magnum and Nokondi, all trained by her master Phil Cole.
Canton Kid, from the in-form Tayarn Halter stable, gave his rivals a galloping lesson in the TRNT Off The Track Handicap (1100m) with jockey Paul Shiers.
And in Race 5 it was the Kevin Lamprecht trained three-year-old Daniher with jockey Ianish Luximon who took out the win.
