Racing fans made their mark at the 2024 Guineas Day, giving a hint of what’s to come throughout the next month of racing at the Darwin Cup Carnival.
Thousands made their way to the Darwin Turf Club for the racing action on track or to show off their fashion as the Top End’s biggest sporting event got underway.
Darwin Turf Club chairman Craig Treize said it was great to see so many people getting around the opening day of the Carnival.
“It’s been a fantastic start to our carnival, we have some great guests here,” he said.
“The racing is fantastic and we’ve got a great crowd in attendance, so we’re looking forward to a great carnival.
“We’re hoping the locals really get behind it and embrace the Turf Club this season, we really appreciate them and want them to be a part of our journey.”
DCOH managing director Shane Dignan said it was great to be the sponsor for the first major day of the Carnival, and was rapt to be hosting the first corporate event.
“The relationship between the Turf Club and ourselves has been a great part of our rebranding and has helped us get our name out there,” he said.
“It’s a great event for everyone to come down, it brings the community together and hopefully we get more people from down south to enjoy it again.”
