ONE hundred years ago, the men who would become the first Anzacs were camped in the shadows of the pyramids in Egypt.

They were 100 days away from landing on the shores of Gallipoli.

These were the men who would spearhead an ambitious but ultimately doomed Allied push across a narrow, sandy Turkish peninsula towards the important naval route, The Dardanelles.

These were the men who would create a legend.

The legend of Anzac.

Messenger Community News has launched a project which aims to pay tribute to the South Australians who put their lives on the line throughout World War I.

As the name suggests, our 100 Years, 100 Days, 100 Stories series will profile 100 South Australian World War I heroes over the next 100 days as the nation builds up to the centenary of the Allied landing on Gallipoli on April 25, 1915.

We will publish one of these stories every day, right here at advertiser.com.au/local, and, of course, bring them to you through the pages of our Messenger print publications.

Our reporters have been scouring through official war records to uncover these stories but they want your help.

If you have the details and war record of a grandfather, great grandfather, grandmother, great grandmother, uncle, aunty or long-lost cousin who served during World War I, we want to hear their story.

Please go to the Messenger‘s Facebook pages, listed below, and send us a message with as much detail as you can.
