A KOALA walks into a supermarket.

This may be the start of a terrible dad joke in some cases but for staff and shoppers at the Dernancourt Coles this morning this was a reality as their visit to the grocer was crashed by a cuddly little critter.

Despite eucalyptus oil being in stock, the koala nicknamed Caramello was discovered in the dairy section.

A Coles spokesman said the local wildlife authority was called but Caramello had other plans.

“After about 5 to 10 minutes, the koala idled out of the supermarket and went on with its koala business,” he said.

“The wildlife authority checked on its welfare and it’s said to be doing fine.”
