Scott Morrison fires shots at Albanese, as PM sledge ruined by funny gaffe

Anthony Albanese’s attempt to mock Scott Morrison has been ruined by his own gaffe, as the PM fires shots himself.

Labor leader Anthony Albanese has demanded Prime Minister Scott Morrison end the guessing game and call an election but bungled where the Governor-General lives.

As the Prime Minister unveiled his key election pitch – the Labor leader is a “blank page” and is the wrong leader for “uncertain times” – his opponent has urged him to bring on the campaign.

Campaigning in Adelaide, Mr Albanese urged the Prime Minister to stop using taxpayer money to run advertisements spruiking the government’s achievements.

“I feel like putting in a phone call to the Prime Minister if he doesn’t know where the Governor-General lives and offer him a lift to The Lodge to call this election,” Mr Albanese said.

But his pronouncement was immediately mocked because the Lodge is the Prime Minister’s official residence and the Governor-General lives in the neighbouring suburbs of Yarralumla.

The Prime Minister, who is tipped to call the election on Sunday, said Mr Albanese was a “blank page”.

“This election is a choice between Liberal Nationals and what we have been able to do to keep our economy strong,’’ he said.

“You don’t know anything about the Labor Party. They haven’t told you anything. They cannot even confirm who their defence minister will be and who their Home Affairs minister would be if they were selected by the Australian people at the next election.

“So this election will be an opportunity, they are currently a complete blank page. They have had three years to tell you what the economic plan would be after they were rejected at the last election and they still haven’t told you.

“They are not going to skate to an election without the proper scrutiny that should come to a because this election campaign is very important. It will give Australia the opportunity to have a good look.

“It determines the economy you will live in for the next decade. It determines how strong Australia will be in one of our most uncertain times.”

The Prime Minister said the Labor leader was a pretender.

“Mr Albanese has ducked and weaved. He pretended to be everybody under the sun. Except for himself. And that’s a real risk.”
